GTA 5 Enhanced release time and preload

GTA 5 Enhanced global launch times, what hardware you need to meet the game's increased requirements, and how to preload.

GTA 5 Enhanced release time and preload

According to Steam, the GTA 5 release time is much closer than originally believed, and will be available from 7am EST and 12pm GMT. Until then, players have a short window to pre-emptively migrate their story data and career progress over to the Enhanced edition.

Owners of the original Grand Theft Auto 5 may have noticed that the game has been renamed to Grand Theft Auto V Legacy on Steam, and a new entry called Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced just above it.

As of 7am EST, the Enhanced version will become available to play for all owners of the game, bringing a number of graphical enhancements, the Oscar Guzman Flies Again mission to GTA Online, and giving new players 4 million GTA$ to get started in GTA Online.

Your progress in Legacy can be transferred to the newest version immediately and ahead of the launch from within Legacy, or from within the Enhanced edition once it has gone live.

Do take note that once you have transferred your progress, you will be unable to reverse the decision or do so again, so you’re better off transferring once you’re ready to say goodbye to the Legacy edition.

Just be aware that the Enhanced version of GTA 5 does require much beefier hardware specifications from your PC, so you won’t actually be able to benefit from these enhancements or transferring your data unless your PC has at least:

  • An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 GPU
  • An Intel Core i7 4770 or AMD FX 9590 CPU
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 105GB of SSD space

These newly minted GTA 5 system requirements will prove much more difficult for older laptops and PCs to run, but shouldn’t be inaccessible for most modern rigs. Of course, even if you don’t meet these requirements, you can still access the Legacy edition of the game which will continue to receive support from Rockstar for the immediate future (though it will, almost certainly, be dropped at some point in the next few years).

If you do meet the game’s enhanced requirements, you’ll be able to preload GTA 5 Enhanced right now until the game’s launch at 7am EST, so get a move on!

All of this seems, in our eyes, to be Rockstar’s way of ramping up towards the GTA 6 release date and the all important question: will GTA 6 Online be available at launch or shortly afterwards, and will it replace GTA Online as we know it?
