GTA 6 delayed again until late 2026. The wait continues
GTA 6 delayed again in order to "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect".
The community has been awaiting big news about a new trailer, but today’s Take-Two earnings call brought news we did not want to hear. A further delay to GTA 6 and it’s now not launching until Thursday, November 19, 2026.
GTA 6 was originally planned to launch this year, but it was then delayed until May next year. That said, this new delay does not come as a huge surprise considering how quiet Rockstar has been over the past six months. This new setback will be frustrating and disappointing for fans who were hoping they’d be driving around Leonida early next year.
This latest delay news appeared on Take-Two’s Q2 earning call financial reports and a subsequent social post was also pushed out which states: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve, We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”
Following the announcement, The Game Business interviewed Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who added, “When we set a date, we really do believe in it. We said when we set the last date, if a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time. And that’s exactly what happened. We feel really good about this release date. It’s in the same fiscal year, it happens to be a great release window, and naturally, we’re really supportive of Rockstar’s approach.”
This latest delay news will be disheartening for other developers who had delayed their games to avoid any GTA 6 release window in this current quarter and next year in May, when it was expected to launch. No doubt developers will once again start shuffling their release schedules around for the 2026 holiday season.
Are we disappointed? Yes. Are we surprised? No. Rockstar and Take-Two are going to take as long as it takes to get the game to a polished state. After all, it’s the biggest gaming franchise in the world, and they know that gamers will wait, albeit impatiently, for GTA 6 to launch.
