GTA 6 officially delayed to 2026

In an official announcement from Rockstar Games on social media and Newswire, a GTA 6 delay has been announced. Despite their best intentions, a Fall 2025 release has proven unfeasible. As a result, Grand Theft Auto 6 is now due to arrive on consoles on May 26th, 2026.

In a short statement, Rockstar had this to say: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Unfortunately, no further information was provided, such as when we might see the next GTA 6 trailer.

To many fans, including ourselves, this is a bit of a blow, especially considering the number of times a Take-Two Interactive earnings call has confirmed that GTA 6 was on track for a Fall 2025 release. The announcement had the added effect of bombing Take-Two Interactive’s stock value, sinking from roughly $336 on Friday, May 2, to $306 as of writing before recovering.

The only good news to come out of this announcement, silver lining though it may be, is that we finally have a concrete GTA 6 release date. Knowing exactly when the game is due to release also gives us a better idea of when a GTA 6 pre order might go live, and how much further back a GTA 6 PC release could be.

For now, the best we can do is pray Rockstar release a new piece of media in the wake of this news. So, make sure to follow GTA Db on Google News, Twitter and BlueSky so you don’t miss the latest reveals.
