Take-Two CEO reaffirms GTA 6 May 2026 release, kind of
Take-Two Interactive CEO says Rockstar needed more time for polish, but hints that the May 2026 date is firm.

No matter the studio, games are likely to face a delay for a variety of reasons. Sadly, this proved accurate when Take-Two Interactive announced the GTA 6 delay towards the beginning of May 2025. Since then, we’ve had a second GTA 6 trailer, new characters, and a follow-up interview with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick which seems to confirm the GTA 6 release date won’t be delayed again… maybe.
Previously, Zelnick seemed pretty adamant that the release date for the game was on track for a Fall 2025 window. Every earnings call prior to the announced delay also seemed to confirm that, despite fan theories, the game was not going to be delayed. Of course, the reality has since become clearer, prompting many to wonder what’s preventing GTA 6 from being delayed again.
In an IGN interview, with regards to the need for the delay to May 2026, Zelnick stated “there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations.”
“While of course, delays pain me — how could they not? — the most important thing to do is to support your teams in their search for perfection.”
When asked how confident Zelnick was that GTA 6 would arrive on May 26, 2026, Zelnick replied “I think historically when we set a specific date, generally speaking, we’ve been very good about reaching it.”
While this seems like a confirmation the game won’t be delayed again, it does leave wiggle-room for if that falls through. Of course, the future is unforeseeable, and no one, not even Zelnick, can say for sure whether the game will or won’t be delayed again. Ultimately, no one wants a broken game, especially for something as big as GTA 6. So, if it takes another delay, fine.
