Does Take-Two Interactive’s latest move mean GTA 6 will arrive on PC earlier than expected?

GTA 5 Enhanced Edition has arrived on PC Game Pass and the Xbox store, which could indicate a shift in focus for Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar games.

Does Take-Two Interactive’s latest move mean GTA 6 will arrive on PC earlier than expected?

With the revamped GTA 5 Enhanced Edition appearing seemingly out of nowhere on the PC Game Pass and Xbox Store, does this mean Take-Two Interactive are placing more importance on a GTA 6 PC release, and could even move it forward?

When it comes to the PC, Rockstar has almost famously left non-console platforms as an afterthought. The lack of a GTA+ membership option for PC gamers until three years after its introduction, and the year-long delay between console releases and PC versions of numerous Rockstar games including GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and more support this idea.

Sadly, and for this reason, it’s quite likely that the PC’s GTA 6 release date won’t arrive until Fall 2026, one year after the console-exclusive release arriving in Fall 2025.

However, that might no longer be the case considering recent moves from Take-Two Interactive. The recent release of the revamped GTA Online and singleplayer campaign for PC, making GTA+ available to PC gamers, and now the arrival of the Enhanced Edition on the PC Game Pass and Xbox Store, implies more focus is being placed on the PC platform than ever before.

In my mind, this can only be good news for a GTA 6 PC release, and could imply that PC gamers won’t need to wait a full year before getting their hands on a port.

Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick, though very cagey in numerous interviews, has already hinted that the PC audience is becoming more and more important. In an old IGN interview regarding the current console generation, Zelnick stated that the PC version of any multiplatform game can easily make up 40% or more of a game’s overall sales. Zelnick went on to state “we have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue.”

Of course, none of this definitively says that a GTA 6 PC port will be arriving any earlier than 2026, but the increase in PC focus could underline a shift in strategy.

On one hand, bringing the PC release forwards could result in significantly more sales, and the growth of an audience early on. On the other hand, keeping the game console exclusive could push console sales.

One thing seems for certain: a GTA 6 Game Pass remains unlikely at launch, considering how popular and profitable the game is likely to be.

Whether the PC release is brought forward or not remains to be seen, but I hope that GTA 5’s remaster on PC hints at a much earlier timeframe than the 2026 release we are currently expecting for GTA 6. Perhaps, if we’re lucky, we’ll see a GTA 6 PC port by Christmas 2025 (but that is some hard hoping).
