GTA 5 system requirements

The GTA 5 PC requirements have been increased as of March 4, 2025, and will demand much more of your devices than the original required.

GTA 5 system requirements

The GTA 5 system requirements for PC have been upgraded for 2025 and demand a lot more from your devices than it used to! While you still don’t need the most powerful computer or laptop to run Grand Theft Auto 5 on the higher specs, you will need a good internet connection if you want to play on the incredibly popular multiplayer mode: GTA Online.

GTA 5 minimum requirements

Following the GTA 5 upgrade on March 4, 2025, the latest GTA V minimum requirements demand:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 graphics card
  • Intel Core i7-4770 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 105GB of SSD space

Luckily, players who don’t meet the above requirements will still be able to play GTA 5 and GTA Online via a separate launchable instance, meaning that PC players on the upgraded and legacy versions will be unable to interact with one another.

If you’re not sure if you can meet the enhanced GTA 5 system requirements on your PC or laptop, check out the free GTA 5 requirements test over on PCGameBenchmark to answer the question “Can I run GTA 5?

For those who don’t want to make the upgrade to the Enhanced edition, you can still access the game through the Legacy mode, which has the following minimum requirements:

  • NVIDIA 9800 GT or AMD HD 4870 graphics card
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 110GB of HD space

Overall, the latest minimum specs for Grand Theft Auto 5 are achievable even on budget PCs and laptops, though they aren’t quite as accessible as the legacy demands. Of course, these specs will only get the game up and running on the lowest settings, so you might want to aim for a higher benchmark if you’re looking to install any GTA 5 mods, or engage in the GTA Online mode.

To meet the latest GTA V recommended specs, you will need:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU
  • Intel Core i5-9600K CPU
  • 16GB of RAM
  • 105GB of SSD space

These newer demands are far and above what the original recommended specs called for, but, as with the minimum requirements, players who met the original specs can still access the game via a separate version of GTA 5.

The legacy GTA 5 recommended specs needed:

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD HD 7870 graphics card
  • Intel Core i5 3470 or AMD FX-8350 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 110GB of HD space

You’ll see the most improvement in performance if you install the game on an SSD, especially when encountering a loading screen.
