GTA 6 PS4 and Xbox One
Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to the latest consoles, but will it arrive on the previous generation PS4 and Xbox One?
Rockstar’s plans for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S releases of Grand Theft Auto VI are well known, but GTA 6 PS4 and Xbox One options are less certain. In fact, it’s almost certain that GTA 6 will not be available for PS4 and Xbox One, because both consoles are just too old.
At present, Rockstar have made it clear that the GTA 6 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are set for Fall 2025. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two Interactive have made comment on whether a previous generation option will be available. While a GTA 6 PC version is also in question, it is almost certain to become a reality a year or more after GTA 6 hits the shelves.
Will GTA 6 be on PS4?
No, it doesn’t seem likely that Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on PS4. The PS4 uses a HDD, whereas the PS5 uses an NVMe SSD, which puts the PS4 at an immediate and obvious disadvantage. Putting that aside, the PS5’s processor is twice as fast as the PS4, the PS5’s GPU is almost three times faster than the PS4 (not even considering the difference in TFLOPs and compute units (CUs)).
To put it simply, the PS4 doesn’t have the hardware capability of running the GTA 6 system requirements based on what we’ve seen of the GTA 6 trailer and GTA 6 leaks.
Will GTA 6 be on Xbox One?
No, the chances of Grand Theft Auto VI coming to Xbox One are slim to none. In short, the Xbox Series S has a processor that is twice as fast as the Xbox One, has a GPU that is almost twice as fast as the Xbox One, and has an NVMe SSD when the Xbox One has a HDD. With such a huge gap in hardware, the chances of Rockstar Games optimizing GTA 6 for the Xbox One are extremely slim.
Is GTA 6 next gen only?
At present, GTA 6 appears to be exclusively designed for next generation consoles. While official GTA 6 PC requirements have not yet been announced, it is extremely likely that the game will require a beefy gaming rig to run Grand Theft Auto 6 well. As such, previous generation consoles will need more than a hope and prayer to see a version of GTA 6 land.
If you are on the previous consoles and really want to play GTA 6, you might have to bite the bullet, save up the pennies, and upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
