The GTA 6 release date window has been set for fall 2025, though PC players may be waiting a while longer for a GTA VI launch.
After years of GTA 6 leaks, unofficial teasers and numerous Take-Two Interactive earnings calls, we finally have a confirmed GTA 6 release date window. It’s a while away yet, but even just knowing when to expect the sixth installment in Rockstar’s iconic series has us pretty excited.
For PC fans, a GTA 6 PC launch might be much, much further away than they’d like, as Rockstar has not made any official announcement on when the game will make it to Windows OS systems.
When is the GTA 6 release date window?
The GTA 6 release date window is set for the fall of 2025.
All recent Take-Two Interactive Earnings calls have confirmed that GTA 6 will launch in the “fall of calendar 2025.” A specific month has not yet been cited, but every call has reinforced that Rockstar is on track to deliver GTA 6 on time.
A rumor, now debunked, believed that GTA 6 was due to release on September 17, 2025. However, the retailer in question who accidentally posted a release date for their GTA 6 pre orders soon removed the date from their listing and issued an apology to fans.
As a result, the GTA 6 release date remains set for the vague window of fall of 2025. It isn’t without merit, though, that GTA 6 could release in September 2025 given that GTA 5 was released in September 2013. September 17, 2013 to be exact. However, other Rockstar titles fall outside of September, with Red Dead Redemption 2 having seen an October 2018 release.
On December 4, 2023, Rockstar Games released a GTA 6 trailer that gave us our first idea of when to expect the game’s launch. The trailer featured numerous callouts to real-life incidents in Florida. Whether the player can join in on any of these activities or encounter them in-game remains a matter of debate, but the trailer gave us one key insight: the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date year.
We previously knew that GTA 6 was coming to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in 2025 thanks to a press release from Rockstar Games, which was published alongside the trailer. Unfortunately for PC fans who were excited to see a 2025 launch window, that same press release made no mention as to when PC players might see a GTA 6 PC edition or Steam release.
Fans hoping for a GTA 6 PS4 and Xbox One release may have even longer to wait than PC players, as it seems very unlikely that the game will ever be ported to the previous generation consoles based on GTA 6 system requirement estimates alone.
What month will Grand Theft Auto VI release?
GTA 6 is set to launch in Q3 2025, with best estimates placing it in October of 2025.
With a fall 2025 GTA 6 release date now confirmed, it is quite likely that GTA 6 will arrive in September or October of 2025. This gives Rockstar a little leeway to still deliver before the holidays in the off-chance there are any small delays, so it makes a lot of sense commercially.
At one point, it was believed that GTA 6 would arrive in Q1 of 2025. Lending credit to a February or March 2025 release window was an accidental leak by Rockstar Games themselves in a job listing for a Russian localization tester, which stated that the position was a fixed-term 12-month contract and that the work produced would need to be suitable for the “final product”.
This discovery, in combination with all the other estimates, further pointed to the likelihood that GTA 6 would launch in the first quarter of 2025. However, this theory was debunked by the Take-Two Interactive earnings call on May 16, 2024. So, while it’s disappointing we’re not getting a GTA 6 release date sooner, at least we know when we can anticipate picking up a copy.
How expensive will GTA 6 be?
Given standard pricing for modern AAA games, even ones as large as GTA 6 proposes itself to be, we expect the GTA 6 price to be marked at around $69.99 (or £69.99 in the UK) for the standard edition when the GTA 6 release date rolls around. If there are special editions available on launch, they could be anything from $90-$200, depending on what’s included in the special edition offering.
When is the GTA 6 release date for PC?
Assuming that the development of GTA 6 goes according to plan, we expect to see a GTA 6 PC release as soon as Q3 2026, a little over one year from the console’s anticipated release date. That said, the GTA 5 Enhanced edition bringing GTA+ membership to PC players and refining the online experience does hint that PC players are more integral to Take0-Two Interactive’s strategy moving forward. A PC version certainly won’t be available at the game’s initial launch, but the wait time between consoles and PC could be the shortest we’ve seen yet for Rockstar ports.
